Personal Application
This supplement is a heart-to-heart companion to the preceding two lessons — addressing your immediate personal needs and practical application of the truths studied.
Salvation has three tenses. Justification declares you righteous; sanctification makes you righteous in practice. These two truths form the backbone of what it means to be a Christian — but most believers are much clearer on one than the other. This supplement helps you inhabit both.
It's essential that you understand salvation correctly and learn how to obtain full deliverance from sin, sickness, poverty, want, and failure through the means of grace God has provided.
Scripture makes it abundantly clear that God wants every Christian to be free from sin. Let's walk through some key passages together.
"Thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins" Matthew 1:21. Jesus also told people to "sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon thee" John 5:14John 8:11.
He explained, "Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house forever" John 8:34-36.
Paul addressed this powerfully in Romans: "Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?... Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin... Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead unto sin... Let not sin reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you... Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?... Being then made free from sin, ye became servants of righteousness... When ye were the servants of sin ye were free from righteousness... But now being made free from sin, and become servants of righteousness, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life" Romans 6:1-23.
"For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death" Romans 8:1-3. Paul also wrote, "And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts" Galatians 5:24.
John assures us, "The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin" 1 John 1:7, 9.
Many teach that the body sins every day while the soul remains free from sin. However, according to the passages above, the body must be holy just as much as the soul and spirit.
Look at these Scriptures that specifically mention the body being free from sin:
"That ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind" Romans 12:1-2.
"Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body" Romans 6:11-23.
"Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live" Romans 8:12-13.
"Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are" 1 Corinthians 3:16-171 Corinthians 6:19-20.
"Let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God" 2 Corinthians 7:1.
"Putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ" Colossians 2:11-12Colossians 3:5-17.
"That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel [body] in sanctification and honour" 1 Thessalonians 4:3-72 Timothy 2:19-22.
Healing of the body and perfect health is part of salvation. You can see this clearly in Lesson Thirty-three, Point 1, 42, and Lesson Fourteen.
Jesus died on the cross so that all people might be set free from sin and disease. There's no reason why anyone should go without these benefits Matthew 8:16-171 Peter 2:24James 1:5-8.
