RSV Catholic Edition Bible
The RSV Catholic Edition (RSV-CE) is the standard RSV text approved by Rome for Catholic use, incorporating the deuterocanonical books in their traditional Catholic canonical order. It is widely used in Catholic seminaries and is the basis for the Ignatius Study Bible.
History & Background
Approved by the Vatican's Pontifical Biblical Commission and published in 1966 by the Catholic Biblical Association of Great Britain. Ignatius Press later produced the Second Catholic Edition (RSV-2CE, 2006), which reverses a handful of the original Catholic Edition's modifications. Both editions are widely used in Catholic and Anglican contexts.
Canon Proximity Rating
Includes the full Catholic canon (73 books) including deuterocanonical books (Tobit, Judith, 1–2 Maccabees, Wisdom, Sirach, Baruch, additions to Esther and Daniel). Protestant canon rating would be 9.
