The New English Translation of the Septuagint (NETS) is the definitive modern scholarly English translation of the Greek Septuagint (LXX) — the Greek translation of the Hebrew Scriptures used by the early Church and quoted extensively in the New Testament. Sponsored by the International Organization for Septuagint and Cognate Studies (IOSCS), it provides an accurate window into the Bible as the first Christians knew it.
History & Background
Project directed by Albert Pietersma and Benjamin G. Wright. The Psalms appeared in 2000 and the complete NETS in 2007 from Oxford University Press. Covers not just the standard LXX but also additional Greek translations traditionally included under the Septuagint title. Used by the NRSV as a base, the NETS revised it to precisely represent the Greek. Indispensable for NT background studies and early church history.
