Modern English Version — Holy Bible

The Modern English Version (MEV) is a formal-equivalence revision of the King James Version tradition, translating from the Textus Receptus (Greek) and the Ben Chayyim Masoretic Text (Hebrew) — the same source texts used by the KJV translators. It updates the KJV's archaic language to readable modern English while preserving the theological character of the traditional text.

History & Background

Conceived by James F. Linzey, retired U.S. Army chaplain, as a military chaplaincy Bible. A team of 47 translators from diverse denominations worked on the project. The NT was completed in 2011 and the full Bible in 2014. The MEV is particularly popular in Pentecostal and charismatic circles who prefer the traditional Textus Receptus text base but desire modern English.
