Literal Standard Version
The Literal Standard Version (LSV) is an extremely formal-equivalence translation aiming for maximum accuracy to the original Hebrew and Greek, including use of 'Yahweh' for the divine name. Produced as a free, open-source translation, it draws on the best of YLT, ASV, and modern textual scholarship while presenting the text in readable contemporary English.
History & Background
The LSV was developed by Covenant Press and released in 2020 as a freely available translation. It uses the standard critical Hebrew (BHS/BHQ) and Greek texts (NA28/UBS5), restores 'Yahweh' throughout the OT, and aims to be updated regularly as scholarship advances. The LSV is designed for serious students who want maximum fidelity to the original languages without the archaic English of the YLT.
Canon Proximity Rating
Standard 66-book Protestant canon. Free and open-source. Restores 'Yahweh'; maximally literal with modern English.
