International Standard Version Bible

The International Standard Version (ISV) uses a 'literal-idiomatic' translation philosophy, balancing formal and dynamic equivalence. It is distinguished by being the first modern translation to include an exclusive textual apparatus comparing the Dead Sea Scrolls with the Masoretic Text, particularly in the book of Isaiah.

History & Background

Begun in 1996 by the ISV Foundation, a California non-profit. Peter Flint, a leading Dead Sea Scrolls authority at Carleton University, contributed the Isaiah translation. The ISV was first released online before appearing in print. Its meticulous attention to Dead Sea Scrolls scholarship makes it particularly valuable for Old Testament textual criticism. A Third Edition is planned.
