God's Word Translation

God's Word Translation (GW) uses a proprietary 'Natural Language' philosophy — a middle path between formal and dynamic equivalence — aiming for accuracy without sacrificing natural American English. Rooted in Lutheran pastor William Beck's 1963 translation 'An American Translation' (AAT), it produces clear, readable Scripture especially suited for personal devotion and evangelism.

History & Background

Lutheran pastor William F. Beck began the work with his 1963 NT 'An American Translation.' After his death, the God's Word to the Nations Society expanded his work into a complete Bible. Baker Publishing Group became the primary distributor in 1995. Though less widely known than NIV or NLT, the GW receives consistently high marks from translation scholars for its unusual combination of accuracy and readability.
