Evangelical Heritage Version — Holy Bible
The Evangelical Heritage Version (EHV) is a formal-equivalence translation produced by pastors, professors, and teachers of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) and the Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS). It aims for accuracy to the original languages while using natural modern English, with particular sensitivity to Lutheran confessional and doctrinal distinctives.
History & Background
The Wartburg Project began developing the EHV to provide a confessionally Lutheran translation alternative. The New Testament and Psalms were released in 2017; the complete Bible in 2019. Northwestern Publishing House (NPH), the official publisher of WELS, released the print edition. The EHV is growing in recognition beyond Lutheran circles for its scholarly quality and readability.
Canon Proximity Rating
Standard 66-book Protestant canon. Strong formal equivalence; reflects Lutheran confessional interpretation in key texts.
