ESV The MacArthur Study Bible

John MacArthur's definitive verse-by-verse study notes paired with the precise ESV text — an exhaustive reference for expository study and Reformed theology.

History & Background

The English Standard Version was published in 2001 by Crossway, under the editorial oversight of J.I. Packer, building on the Revised Standard Version (1971). Scholars from over 50 evangelical denominations created an 'essentially literal' translation that reads naturally in contemporary English. The ESV has been widely adopted in Reformed and evangelical churches. It underwent revisions in 2007, 2011, and a permanent text was established in 2016.
