Common English Bible with Apocrypha
The Common English Bible offers a contemporary, inclusive translation accessible to a wide range of readers, including the deuterocanonical books. Written at a 7th-grade reading level by over 120 scholars, it serves ecumenical and mainline Christian communities.
History & Background
The CEB was completed in 2011 by a team of over 120 scholars from 22 denominations, sponsored by major mainline Protestant publishers. It prioritizes clear, natural American English with gender-accurate language and is one of the few Protestant-sponsored translations to include the Apocrypha/deuterocanonical books alongside the standard 66 books.
Canon Proximity Rating
This edition includes the deuterocanonical/Apocrypha books beyond the 66-book Protestant canon. The base 66-book translation is solid but inclusion of additional books reduces the Protestant canon score.
