HCSB
NIV/HCSB Combined Reference Bible
A reference edition combining NIV and HCSB translation features for comparative study.
History & Background
The Holman Christian Standard Bible was developed from 1998–2004 by Holman Bible Publishers (LifeWay Christian Resources). It pioneered 'optimal equivalence,' a translation philosophy balancing formal and dynamic approaches more precisely than either the NIV or NASB alone. Uniquely, it rendered the divine name as 'Yahweh' throughout the Old Testament. In 2017 the HCSB was thoroughly revised and renamed the Christian Standard Bible (CSB).
