First published 1965
Amplified Cross-Reference Bible (Bible Ed.)
An alternate cross-reference edition of the Amplified Bible with expanded margin notes and biblical cross-references throughout.
History & Background
The Amplified Bible was first published in 1965 by the Lockman Foundation (partnered with Zondervan), with a fully revised edition in 2015. Its distinctive feature is the use of brackets and parentheses to amplify words, showing the full range of meanings behind key Hebrew and Greek terms. Frances Siewert was the primary translator of the original. It draws from the American Standard Version and numerous sources to provide a devotional reading experience that incorporates lexical commentary within the text.
Canon Proximity Rating
Strictly 66 books. The amplification brackets add interpretive notes drawn from lexicons but do not add content beyond what the original languages support.
