The Amplified Bible — Classic Edition (1965)

The Amplified Bible Classic Edition is the original 1965 version of the Amplified Bible — one of the most distinctive Bible translations in print. Using expanded bracketed phrases after words and phrases, it 'amplifies' the meaning of the original Hebrew and Greek by exposing the range of nuances embedded in key words, giving the reader insight normally available only to those who read the original languages.

History & Background

The Amplified Bible was produced by the Lockman Foundation and first published in 1965. The project grew out of Frances Siewert's personal study notes, which she shared with the Lockman Foundation in the 1940s. The OT appeared in 1964 and the complete Bible in 1965. A revised Classic Edition was published in 1987. The Amplified Bible was updated significantly in 2015 (the current 'Amplified Bible'), but the Classic Edition remains popular among many readers who prefer the original expanded text.
