Amplified Bible

The original and beloved Amplified Bible, expanding key words with brackets to reveal the full breadth of the Hebrew and Greek originals — a classic devotional study tool.

History & Background

The Amplified Bible was first published in 1965 by the Lockman Foundation (partnered with Zondervan), with a fully revised edition in 2015. Its distinctive feature is the use of brackets and parentheses to amplify words, showing the full range of meanings behind key Hebrew and Greek terms. Frances Siewert was the primary translator of the original. It draws from the American Standard Version and numerous sources to provide a devotional reading experience that incorporates lexical commentary within the text.
